(If the child’s ability level doesn’t match the age suggestion, that’s okay! Prioritize ability level over age except in the case of older beginners — see note at the bottom of this message about exceptions.)
⭐️ Mommy & Me (ages 6-29 months): This is an intro to swimming class for babies and toddlers. Parent participation is required. Learn how to safely introduce your baby to the water through fun activities and songs! Classes include 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of (optional) free swim time.
🦆 TRUE Beginner (ages 2.5-4): New swimmer that is “scared of the water” or “likely to cry.” This is the class for the children who have to be held or use floaties in the water. 3 children per class for 25 minutes
🦆 Beginner (ages 3-5): MUST be age 3 or older. New swimmer but NOT a “scared of the water” or “likely to cry” swimmer. May have also had lessons before but still in the beginning stages of learning to swim. This is the class for the children who have to be held or use floaties in the water. 4 children per class for 30 minutes
🦆 🐠 Beginner/Intermediate (Beg/Int) (ages 3-7): Child puts their face in the water and has a prone (horizontal) body position in the water with a “splashy” kick. Child can swim short distances without a floatie. This class is best suited for the child who is CLOSE to not needing a floatie or assistance to swim on their own. 4 children per class for 30 minutes
🐠 Intermediate (ages 4-9): Has had lessons before and can swim without a floatie or without being held. Can doggie paddle or swim with face in the water. Can kick on their back. Not much experience with the strokes. General focus for this class is working on freestyle with introduction to backstroke and breastroke. 4 children per class for 30 minutes
🦈 Advanced/Swim Team Prep (ages 5+): This the most advanced class option and is designed to refine the swimmer’s skills, making them more confident and competent in the water. Students must already know freestyle with rotary breathing (i.e. rolling to their back or side, no lifting the head) prior to enrolling in this class .The main focus is on refining all the strokes, with emphasis on freestyle, backstroke, and breastroke. Skills such as diving, streamlines, and flipturn may be taught depending on time and the class dynamic. 4 children per class for 30 minutes
Special cases/exceptions: If the child is an older beginner (age 5+), it is best to put them in an intermediate or beginner/intermediate class so they are with children their own age — they will be able to touch the bottom of my pool so they will be safe — but being with children their own age tends to be a motivating factor and confidence builder.
Back Floatation: Though not a life-saving device, this is a teaching tool to foster safe, independent swimming for swimmers with beginning skills. The back floatie does not interfere with the child's ability to freely use their arms or legs yet provides necessary buoyancy. This will be provided during lessons and available for purchase ($15) for use outside of lessons. There will be a place during registration to indicate if you would like to purchase a back floation device (aka back floatie).
Lesson Location: Lessons will be located at a residential house in Rogers, AR, located between exit 83 and 85. The specific address will be provided upon booking.
Inclement Weather/Make-Ups: In the event of inclement weather, an attempt will be made by the instructor to cancel lessons at least 30 minutes before the class start time. Please call/text Jill Young if there is a question as whether classes will be held. Make-up lessons will be scheduled at the instructor’s earliest convenience. Refunds or additional rescheduling will not be provided for failure to attend make-up lessons.
No Parent Participation for True Beginner. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced/STP Classes: Parents are encouraged to watch the lessons, but may NOT be in the water with their child. If a child has trouble concentrating on tasks during the lesson due to parent(s) involvement/distraction, the parent(s) may be asked to leave and return when the child has regained focus.
